You Deserve a Break

Have you ever felt like a hamster on a wheel?  Just keep running and running until you just can’t run anymore. We’ve all been that hamster. What typically happens is that we reach a point of overwhelm and exhaustion. When that point comes and it will if we keep pushing ourselves, our bodies say, “No more! I need a break.”  And you should definitely listen to your body.

I experienced this very scenario this past week. I felt extremely overwhelmed with business issues, I wanted to write for my blog and my son became ill. And on top of all of this family was contacted me for Christmas ideas. By the end of the week, I was exhausted and overwhelmed. So what did I do?

I took all of Saturday off and I ended sleeping for several hours. Whether I wanted to take a break of or not (oh, I was ready), my body was. There was a small part of me that felt guilty for taking a day to just rest. But I knew that I needed this rest to recharge my body and my mind. In fact, I woke up this morning feeling inspired again and ready to go but at a pace that is manageable.

We all reach that point from time to time when you have to stand up and say, “Enough!” It is so important to honor yourself and what your mind and body are telling you.  Here are some signs to pay attention to which means you need a break:

  • Anxious
  • Irritable
  • Headache
  • Tired
  • Brain fog

My advice is when you feel like you need a day of rest, take it.  Doing so will ensure that you relieve your anxiety and come back with a clearer mind and a refreshed body.
